TO ALL WHO COME TO THIS HAPPY PLACE...
WELCOME!
WELCOME!
NAME: Aladdin (Al, Ali Ababwa)[/size]
FILM: Aladdin
AGE: Eighteen
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: About 5'9", average
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Black/dark brown
PHYSICAL STATURE Youthful; built but not overly muscular, and somewhat smooth-limbed for a boy.
OVERALL APPEARANCE: Aladdin is a street rat, clad in billowing white pants with what looks like a gold cummerbund and a purple vest--with a red fez for color. He obviously doesn’t dress very warmly because it’s hot in Agrabah, and his clothes show signs of wear and tear like patching. Maybe he had shoes once but he certainly doesn’t wear them now, and he has a simple mop of black hair that works for him but doesn’t necessarily do anything elegant. He’s a bit wiry, not having put much effort into creating muscle but gaining strength over time from living off the streets. Nowadays he’s living at the palace, so he’s normally wearing the soft, pristine garments of royalty.
LIKES:

DISLIKES:
-Jafar

-Thieves (who aren’t him)
STRONG POINTS:
-Loyalty
-A relatively firm moral compass
FLAWS:
-Recklessness
-Bad habits from street life
-Arrogance
PERSONALITY: Aladdin is a pretty slick guy, street-smart and good at lying. He won’t hesitate to steal, either, but it’s not a malicious thing--as he also won’t hesitate to share. He doesn’t really do either for his own personal gain so much as for his and Abu’s survival, and for Jasmine’s later on. Even so, he’s still very much a child in some ways and focused on his own innocent dreams of wealth and love and happiness.
Like a child, he can also get indignant. The way Jafar nearly kills him gets him riled, and when he realizes he has to break his promise to his friend to get what he wants, he’s upset about it but still certain it’s the only choice he can make. But the fact that he’s that bothered by it, even if he gets angry with Genie for being disappointed in him, means he cares deeply for his friends and knows it in his heart when what he’s doing could hurt them.
DREAMS:
-Explore and experience a variety of different places, things, and people
-Have a fun and worthwhile life
-Protect what he has in Jasmine, Abu, Genie, and the Sultan
-Live happily ever after with his princess
HISTORY: Aladdin grew up on the streets, never really getting an education aside from what he picked up on the fly. He dreamed of one day being able to see the palace in all its glory, wondering what it was like for the people who lived there without having to worry about who or where they were going to steal the next meal from. What he never dreamed was to encounter one of these people head-on, but he does in Jasmine, a girl he rescued from the wrath of the marketplace.
Aladdin never suspected that Jasmine’s a princess until they were caught together and she tried to use her influence to save him from the dungeon. The order came from Jafar, though, so Jasmine would have to take it up with him while Aladdin languished in captivity. While there, though, he encountered an old man who promised him his freedom and a reward if he got something for the stranger out of the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin of course agreed and escaped with the old man.
Inside the Cave of Wonders he and Abu found a great wealth of treasure, but the old man had warned them to touch nothing but the golden lamp he was seeking. Considering the fact that they were inside the mouth of a gigantic tiger head that had risen from the sand and magic was obviously involved, Aladdin judged it best to follow the old man’s instructions and had to keep ordering Abu away from the treasure. He found the lamp successfully, but Abu gave in to temptation at the last minute and they had to escape from the cave on the flying carpet they’d found. However, when they reached the opening the old man took the lamp and tried to kill Aladdin, who fell back inside along with Abu, hitting his head and passing out.
When he awoke, most of the inside of the cave was destroyed and there was no way out. Abu, though, had stolen the lamp from the old man, and as Aladdin tried to rub away a smudge he unwittingly awoke the Genie inside. After laying out the rules, the titular Genie asked for his first wish. Aladdin, pretending not to be convinced, suckered his way out of the cave without wasting a single one of the three wishes promised. Genie, duped, insisted there would be no more freebies and went on to turn Aladdin into Prince Ali Ababwa for his next wish. But upon hearing about the Genie’s predicament, Aladdin had already made the promise to wish him free with the third wish.
The motivation behind this wish was, of course, Jasmine. Aladdin figured he could do nothing to impress her as a streetrat, and sought to approach her in a manner just like all the princes she had already turned away. Jasmine wasn’t impressed, but Aladdin kept trying until he got her to ride with him on his magic carpet. While watching fireworks in China, she came to realize that he was the boy from the marketplace, even though he kept insisting it was a servant of his or him incognito.
Things went a little sour when Aladdin fell right into a plot by Jafar to kill him. The royal guard tossed him into the sea, but by chance he was able to summon the Genie and escape. Enraged, Aladdin stormed into the throne room and broke the staff Jafar had been using to control the Sultan.
Jafar then began plotting to take the lamp, and while Aladdin realized he would have to use his last wish to make things right between himself and Jasmine and not to free the Genie like he’d promised, Jafar staged a ruse to steal the lamp. He was successful and turned himself into an all-powerful wizard, taking control of Agrabah and ordering the Genie to throw Aladdin far to the north. Aladdin was able to return by the sheer luck of the flying carpet getting thrown with him, and he snuck into the throne room where Jafar was torturing the Sultan and Jasmine. In order to distract Jafar from Aladdin’s presence, Jasmine pretended to fall deeply in love with him in response to his impossible wish. But Aladdin was noticed as he tried to steal the lamp and Jafar imprisoned Jasmine in a gigantic hourglass and wished himself into an all-powerful Genie. However, as Aladdin succinctly pointed out shortly thereafter, this meant Jafar was subject to the same rules as the original Genie and had a lamp and master to obey as well.
Once Jafar was dealt with and Jasmine and Aladdin had resolved to marry, Aladdin wished Genie free like he’d promised.
ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE: Holing up in a drafty, abandoned building with a curtain for a window and only cold stone and musty blankets for warmth in the middle of winter?
Best idea ever.
Sure, it was Agrabah—it wasn’t THAT cold. But still, trying to get comfortable in the corner that had evolved into a bed over time with the furry ball of Abu curled against his chest was almost as fun as getting caught by that merchant earlier. His arm was definitely gonna bruise where the guy grabbed him, and he was lucky he hadn’t broken his ankle when he twisted it on the rooftop. Not only that, but he hadn’t been able to get away with the bread. Aladdin preferred stealing bread in the winter. The merchants didn’t come out as much and the bread kept for longer than meat or fruit if he had to hang on to it for a while.
Well, vegetables could keep pretty well, too—but Aladdin hated those.
He felt Abu shift, letting out a chittering breath. “Hey, quit squirming,” Aladdin muttered. Abu let out a grumbling noise and fell back into dreams limply, making the black-haired boy snort wryly at the ease with which the monkey fell asleep. “Heh. Hope it’s warmer there than it is here…”
